CO-FOUNDER OUTSET CONTEMPORARY ART FUND & DIRECTOR AND TRUSTEE, OUTSET ENGLAND
Candida Gertler co-founded Outset Contemporary Art Fund in June 2003. Having studied law and journalism in Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg and Geneva and having worked for Spiegel TV, Germany, Candida went on to study contemporary art at Sotheby’s Institute. She initiated the contemporary art events as a board member of the British Friends of the Arts Museums of Israel as well as an annual ‘Women in the Arts Lunch’, honouring the contribution of a female member of the artistic community, which she chaired from 2000 to 2013. She co-funded the cultural communications agency ‘Artprojx’ and developed its philanthropic arm resulting in the creation of Outset Contemporary Art Fund.
In 2010, Candida was the recipient of the 2010 Mont Blanc Award for Arts Patronage and was voted amongst The Times’ 20 most powerful people in arts. Since then, she has been recognised three times by ArtReview Magazine in the ‘Power 100’, a list of the contemporary art world’s most influential figures. Candida was awarded an OBE for her services to Contemporary Visual Arts and Arts Philanthropy in June 2015. She is an executive member of the Tate International Council.
